Environmentally Friendly Cremations & Burials
Nowadays, it is possible to minimise the carbon footprint and cost of a funeral, without compromising on aesthetics as far as the appearance of the coffin is concerned. Richard Fearnley Independent Funeral Directors are privileged to be one of the few funeral directors allowed to use this award winning concept, which was patented by Joseph A. Hey & Son Independent Funeral Directors Ltd of Bradford. The coffin cover is only available locally by using Richard Fearnley Independent Funeral Directors.
The coffin cover consists of a beautiful external shell manufactured from high-quality oak veneer panels, designed to conceal a more environmentally friendly inner casket when used for traditional funeral services.
If you would like to give a close relative the dignified send off they deserve, at the same time as minimising wastage from the burning or burying of expensive materials, our external coffin cover provides you with the perfect solution. The internal coffin that it conceals can be made of tough cardboard or an eco-friendly composite material, strong enough to perform the function of a conventional wooden casket.
Spending large amounts of money on an extravagant coffin may sometimes seem at odds with the personality and wishes of a deceased individual. For an environmentally-friendly solution, a cardboard coffin can serve as a possible replacement. We supply our own cardboard coffins, made from corrugated board and an internal lining that fulfils all practical requirements for either a traditional funeral or a simple eco-burial. Recycled materials make up 25% of the base and 75% of the pillow.
How Does The Coffin Cover Work?
The outer cover, made from oak veneer panels that are polished to a high gloss finish, doesn't actually contain the body of the deceased; it is the simple internal casket that serves this important purpose. For a cremation, the internal casket is removed and placed in the furnace following the service; the external cover is then reused. For burials, the internal casket is removed after the service and before the coffin is lowered into the ground, which means those who are invited to attend the interment will see the internal casket. However, precise arrangements may vary from one service to the next so if there is something in particular you wish to discuss, please do not hesitate to call or email us at any time.
The internal coffins we use are constructed from Tough wall, export strength, double thickness corrugated cardboard – and feature all extra internal lining to reinforce the bases. As such, they are eminently suitable for all types of funerals and, when used in conjunction with our patented coffin covers, will enable you to hold a respectable service that is environmentally friendly too. Our internal caskets are also available on their own, for woodland and other alternative funeral services in the UK, and can be painted if desired. For further details, please contact us.
